Full-Time Senior Advisor, Social Media

Job Description

Reporting to the Manager eCommunications, the incumbent is responsible for developing Suncor’s social media campaigns and participates in the development of the overall social media strategy. This position is responsible for ensuring that Suncor’s social media properties (Suncor and Petro-Canada branded) are integrated and support Suncor’s strategic and business priorities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

•Strategy and Governance (20%)

- Working with the Manager e-Communications and Senior Advisor Online Communication, develops effective, integrated social media marketing strategies. Leads integration of social media applications into business communication plans

- Leads development of social media governance and the development and improvement of workflow processes including ensures adherence to governance standards, leads process improvements for social media and integration into other e-Communications and corporate processes and champions Operational Excellence in social media processes

•Monitoring and Execution (30%)

- Acts as the key interface for all client groups in social media development

- Works with client groups, Communicators and subject matter experts to monitor and measure the impact of social media. Provides recommendations on how social media strategies and tactics can be enhanced to better meet communications and marketing objectives

- Acts as a social media SME to research and document best practice, monitor trends and emerging category leaders

- Leads social media project management for new implementations

- Leads Suncor’s social media working group: an internal cross-functional team whose mandate is to build social media capability and share best practices

- Research emerging social media practices/technology and participate in long-range planning, evaluating new systems and methodologies

- Leads training on social media and social media tools internally

- Champions social media within Suncor and leads change management to increase social media adoption

- Acts as a key member of the Suncor Crisis Response team and recommends social media tools to support issues management

•Content (50%)

- Creates and maintains a social media editorial calendar and posting schedule, co-coordinating with Communicators and other business client groups

- Identifies and repurposes content from multiple internal and external communication channels

- Daily writing and editing of posts/blogs and other content. Coaches contributing writers (communicators and SME) to create engaging, accurate content (campaigns, blog posts, articles, podcasts, videos)

- Reviews internally generated content to ensure integration with brand, messaging and legal guidelines

- Builds and maintains a content distribution network by way of emerging/social media channels

•Available after hours and weekends – on call to support crisis communications response

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

•Bachelor’s degree (in business or communications preferable) with a thorough understanding of social media principles and practice

•Minimum 6-8 years communication experience with minimum 2-3 years emerging/social media experience. A track record of participating in a wide variety of social media activities in a business application with demonstrated results

•Experience working with multi-media files (graphics, video editing) an asset

•Experience in developing social media strategy. Able to translate business / communications objectives into measurable social media tactics with associated metrics. Experience evaluating metrics to evolve and enhance the effectiveness of emerging/social media marketing

•Customer focused – proven client service skills

•Strong communication skills: online writing, editing and proofing required

•Knowledge of social media communication trends/best practices; Active experience working in Web 2.0 technologies

•Experience managing social media in a large, geographically dispersed, complex organization an asset

•Strategic and innovative thinker with the ability to see the big picture, while also being able to drive projects from development to completion.

•Excellent project-management skills

•Ability to effectively partner with management, team members and clients and to work well with all levels of employees is critical
