About the company: Backyard Media is the company behind Interesting Shit, a multi-platform, Toronto based publishing brand producing snackable handmade content and distributing it on the most popular social platforms. Our aim is to connect curious readers and build a community around History, Geography, Science and World Culture. Our stories are true, but either unknown or under known. We aim to bring the marvel of these narratives, images or facts to the consciousness of our readers and hope that these inspiring tales make us look to the skies rather than to the ground. We all sit on a treasure trove of untold wonders known as our world.

1. Key Duties and Responsibilities
● Own and drive overall product roadmap and vision.
● Come up with new formats and consistently optimize existing product/market fit to maximise audience engagement, retention and minimize churn of accessing and sharing content.
● Work with international contributor network to create new prototype story formats.
● Lead and manage development of offline products (print).
● Collaborate with clients across the world to produce sponsored stories
● Positively moving all metrics that relate to audience engagement, retention and growth.
● Lead and champion the visual identity of the publishing brand and its content across publishing platforms (Social, Website, Email).
● Travel may be required

2. Required Skills
2.1. Education

Bachelor of Arts in Design or Communication

2.2. Work Qualifications

● Strong international background in digital design and visual storytelling.
● Working with stringer/reporter networks around the world.
● Proven track record in graphic design, product development and creative strategy.
● Experience as Head of Products / Creative Director or a similar role
● 10+ years experience in creative agencies, social media, publishing and design.
● Demonstrated ability to develop and communicate a big-picture vision and strategy AND the passion and detail orientation to drive the details of execution.
● Proficiency in successful implementation of lean product management.
● Experience of using WordPress from both a technical and design point of view.
● Experience of successful and failed monetization strategies to build a scalable and sustainable product.
● Roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty type attitude.
● An entrepreneurial spirit, along with a skill set around innovation, lean testing, analytics, and customer development.

2.3. Other Experience

● Language required: English
● Experience within a senior creative role at a publisher or creative agency
● An in-depth understanding of social media and the entertainment industries
● Understanding of current trends and what makes engaging content
● Active social media user with experience of various social channels
● Extensive experience in establishing an international creative network of content producers
● Track record in digital design and the ability to tell stories powerfully in written and visual form

3. Wage

$110,000.00 CAD per annum at 40 hours per week.

Permanent, Full Time

● 15 business days of vacation
● Eligible for company bonuses and salary increases in accordance to company policy
