Part-Time Editor
Job Description
A leading business to business retail/health/fashion publication is seeking an editor. The incumbent will develop and manage the editorial content for 8 issues annually as well as expand and maintain the website. In addition to working with the publisher, freelance writers and the art director, the successful candidate will attend industry events, create a network of professional contacts and be aware of the business, fashion and health trends and issues that effect this marketplace. An entrepreneurial person is essential, as the editor will work from his/her own well-equipped home office. This editorial position would be of interest to those intermediate level candidates who wish to work on a contract, with part-time, variable hours.
Responsibilities:
Plan, develop and manage editorial content for the magazine and the online product
Write a number of regular columns/articles
Hire freelance writers as required
Manage the editorial production process and timelines and ensure the magazine is produced on schedule
Work with the art director in putting the publication together, including gathering graphics to compliment stories
Edit and proof editorial content
Attend industry events and meet readers/clients regularly
Qualifications
Completion of University, preferably in Journalism
2-3 years as a writer/editor
Excellent command of the English language in both written and oral form
Excellent interpersonal and people skills
Ability to work independently with minimal direction
Self-motivated
Must be creative
Business and marketing maturity
Accuracy and detail oriented editing skills
Ability to work under pressure
Must work well with time restraints and prioritizing
